I am relieved to say that winter has officially arrived in Angel Fire, NM!
After a long and melancholy November, the return of the Great White has locals gleaming with an abundance of cheer and snow-dancing glory. The ski resort holds a season total of 75" and base depth of 30", according to the most recent snow report.
Along with an unpredictable overnight dumping of 16" last Sunday, the end of off-season has officially welcomed the opening of several restaurants in town. A pre-Christmas chimney drop of burritos and snow has this town feeling more alive than the glory of love, and here's a few reasons why you should plan to visit in 2020.
The wildlife
Snowboarders and skiers aren't the only wildlife you'll find bebopping around Angel Fire. Locals and visitors alike who linger around this marvel of a mountain are entranced by frequent sightings of the local elk herd. The herd(s) have dwelled around these parts long before infrastructure and do their best to stick to their known migratory paths. They are a wonder to observe and a true sight to behold.
Comfort & Kid-Friendly
There are plenty of activities right in town for all skill levels and ages. The Elliott Barker Trail and Oeste Vista Loop make for great snowshoe hikes. Toss the kiddo up in the backpack or if they are 3+, buy a pair of toddler snowshoes. Bring the pups along, and these outings make for an adventurous day in the winter wonderland right in our backyard.
Stay & Play
The neat thing about ski towns is that you can generally adventure, relax, and sleep all within a couple miles vicinity. The Lodge at Angel Fire Resort is undergoing lots of upgrades and hosts an in-house restaurant, swimming pool, and hot tub. And for the road warriors, Angel Fire RV Resort is open year-round with an outdoor hot-tub perfect for gazing at the milky way and tons of on-site activities for the whole fam!
The Skiing, Bruh
I mean, come'on. The real reason to visit is for the skiing.
We don't have long lift lines. The whole family is welcome with all-terrain ability runs. We have hidden hike-to areas if you're feeling frisky. And all of this adventure can be had right in town.
